MEDICAL LICENSE
As an eye surgeon, I feel much safer performing Lasik eye surgery today than I did six years ago, when I had just received my medical license. There have been numerous Lasik advances over the years. The success rate of Lasik eye surgery used to be only about twenty five percent. Now, the success rate is almost ninety nine percent. Back when Lasik eye surgery just started being performed, if a surgery went wrong, the damage was often irreparable and some people left the surgery with worse vision than they came in with. Now, even if a mistake does occur, which is a very rare occurrence in itself, the damage can usually be repaired. Eye surgeons used to be sued for Lasik eye surgery operations more than any other type of procedures. That is why very few eye surgeons used to perform Lasik eye surgery only a few years ago. Lasik advances have caused many more eye surgeons to start performing Lasik eye surgery and in return, many more people now have repaired eye sight. Lasik eye surgery is still a very risky procedure, but most bad surgeries, no matter how rare they are, are not the doctor’s fault. Some people just have eyes that can not handle Lasik eye surgery.
