Does understanding diabetes treatments make you a good boyfriend if your girlfriend actually has diabetes? I know all about Lynn’s insulin shots. She takes them every single day and there have even been times when I’ve watched her do it. I know she takes some other types of medications as well and checks her blood and her blood sugar and her diet and all that. I picked all that up just from knowing her and going out with her. However, just because I’m her boyfriend doesn’t mean I have to start doing research into diabetes and all its treatments. I support her and want her to feel better, but why is she drilling me with questions about her condition? She’s not a helpless invalid who can’t take the steps to regulate her own diabetes. More importantly, I’m not her nurse or her doctor. I don’t have a mental checklist in my head about all the things she needs to get done to make sure her health is better. I want her health to better and would like to help however I can, but she’s pushing me. To be fair, she is younger than me and not as mature. I’m not sure how I would have reacted to diabetes even at my age.
